The design of Lagoon Villa embodies the client's vision of creating a rental space that is both simple and elegant.

Synergizing Human, Space, and Nature

The exterior, characterized by clean lines and the use of natural materials, creates a minimalist yet striking presence, seamlessly blending with the surrounding landscape. Inside, expansive, open spaces foster a sense of comfort and tranquillity, offering an inviting environment where simplicity and elegance coexist effortlessly.

The design is shaped by a keen awareness of Gili Air's unique geographical context. Situated on an island with limited access to resources, the villa had to respond to practical constraints—high transportation costs for materials, a limited range of locally available resources, and a scarcity of skilled labor. In light of these challenges, the design emphasizes simplicity and adaptability, ensuring that the villa could be constructed within the island’s constraints while still offering a refined and comfortable living experience. By prioritizing locally sourced materials and designing with the available resources in mind, the villa blends seamlessly into its surroundings, maintaining a connection to the island's minimalist charm while elevating the overall aesthetic.

The villa’s surroundings, dominated by dense trees and expansive open fields, present both challenges and opportunities that the architecture must respond to thoughtfully. The design addresses these conditions while also considering the needs of the residents—balancing privacy with functionality to support daily activities in a seamless manner. Drawing inspiration from local vernacular architecture, the shape and materials of the villa are adapted from elements seen in nearby homes, ensuring that the structure is harmonious and unobtrusive within its environment, yet exudes a quiet elegance within.
The design places a strong emphasis on openness, with large openings that invite natural ventilation and daylight, enhancing both the comfort and energy efficiency of the space. This commitment to openness not only creates a refreshing and airy atmosphere but ensures that the villa remains cool and well-lit throughout the day. Inside, the spaces are thoughtfully curated with luxurious, yet understated finishes, offering an exclusive, serene ambiance that feels both simple and refined. The private swimming pool serves as a luxurious addition, enhancing the overall experience by providing a relaxing focal point, nestled within the lush tropical landscape.
