Our clients envisioned Dua Pohon House as a serene and grounded retreat situated in the undulating landscape of Samara Hills, Lombok.

Synergizing Human, Space, and Nature

The project name, translating to "Two Trees House," implies a vision deeply committed to respecting the site's natural features and contours. Their intent was to create a functional family sanctuary that balances privacy with openness, featuring distinct zones for children and adults while centering shared experiences around spacious open-plan living areas that frame the dramatic surrounding hills.

The vibes and mood of the residence are defined by a concept of textured warmth and organic sophistication. The interiors are designed to feel earthy and lived-in rather than sterile, utilizing finishes that catch the light and add depth to the living spaces. This approach creates a soothing atmosphere where the ruggedness of the outdoors is tempered by refined interior elements, resulting in a mood that is both protective and inviting, perfectly suited for a hideaway in the hills.

To bring this grounded aesthetic to life, the design establishes a rich dialogue between cool solidity and inviting warmth. The foundation of the home feels anchored and timeless, contrasting beautifully with the organic tones found in the ceilings and architectural details.

These earthy baselines are elevated by luxurious accents and sharp, modern contrasts, ensuring the home feels contemporary yet deeply connected to the natural world, without relying on a single dominant element to carry the aesthetic.

A strong connection to nature is woven into the architectural footprint, which features significant semi-outdoor areas that encourage a lifestyle lived in the open air. The inclusion of a sunken lounge and an expansive pool deck blurs the boundaries between the built environment and the garden, inviting the family to immerse themselves in the landscape.

The design prioritizes visual access to the outdoors from key areas like the living and dining rooms, ensuring that the greenery of Samara Hills acts as a constant, living backdrop to daily activities.

Finally, the concept of tropicality acts as the harmonizing force between Human, Space, and Nature. The architecture responds to the tropical climate through large, open-plan layouts—such as the expansive living and dining area—that promote cross-ventilation and fluid movement.

By designing spaces that remain cool and comfortable while offering deep shade, the home mediates the relationship between the inhabitants and the intense environment outside, creating a seamless transition from the comfort of the indoors to the wild beauty of Lombok.
