The Matahari Furniture Store is a building material & furniture showroom in Portland, Jamaica.
Translating visions into responsible expression.
Jason, the owner, is introduced through a mutual contractor who did one of our projects here in Bali. It turns out, he also supplies high-quality crafted wood furniture items to Jamaica.
Our design vision celebrates this cross-cultural partnership, creating a space that elevates the shopping experience into a curated journey through exceptional materials and timeless design. With a layout that invites exploration and a tropical ambiance that reflects its Jamaican setting, the showroom becomes a dynamic platform for Matahari's globally sourced offerings.

The material palette is a celebration of texture and tactility, reflecting the Indonesian roots. Natural woods, rich in grain and character, are paired with understated finishes to highlight the inherent beauty of the materials. These elements are complemented by furnishings crafted in Indonesia, shipped to Jamaica to add warmth and authenticity to the showroom.

At the heart of the design lies a commitment to harmonizing human interaction, spatial flow, and the natural environment. The perimeter room arrangements provide structured displays, while the open central space offers flexibility, encouraging visitors to move intuitively through the store. This open flow not only enhances spatial efficiency but also fosters a sense of discovery, as if walking through an inviting tropical home. The inclusion of natural materials connects the interior with Jamaica’s lush surroundings, creating an atmosphere where visitors feel both inspired and at ease.
The interplay between the carefully arranged rooms and the open-plan center fosters a dialogue between intimacy and openness, allowing the furniture to breathe and resonate with its tropical context. Every detail is designed to amplify the relationship between the store's offerings and its environment, ensuring that the journey through the showroom feels both intentional and organic.
